MOTH WEDNESDAY

Nothing new at the farm today and it was a blazing hot day. I was scanning the sky whilst T Bros had his nose in the grass, looking for bugs. After a while he said "come and look at this". I went over and he had what looked like a Dewick's Plusia Moth.

Dewick's Plusia is a vagrant to Britain with not that many records http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?bf=2436 . However, Pinpoint, whose flat overlooks the farm, has caught a few lately http://peteralfreybirdingnotebook.blogspot.com/2011/09/dewicks-plusia-mystery.html
As luck would have it, only yesterday, T Bros and I had been looking at pics of Dewick's in case we came across one and we agreed that the Moth T Bros had found looked like one. To be sure, I took a pic and emailed it to one of our Moth enthusiasts, Phantom, who phoned back to confirm it was a Dewick's.

Now one has been found actually flying around on the farm, it's looking like they are resident here and this would make us the only site in Britain where they are. Such is the fantastic habitat that is Beddington SF.

Posh came over to have a look and for good measure, we went to check our Herald Moths. Eleven were present. Beddington has great bio-diversity.
